Primary Education Stipend Program (PESP) 2009
In the first couple of years, Safura kindergarten was struggling primarily with the class works, administrative tasks and such to reach to its targeted standard. During that establishment process, it was unaware of the stipend program. One of the staffs came to know about the stipend program in a local social event from another school teacher of a neighboring village.
Although primary education is free in Bangladesh, BDT 4,788 (USD61 approx.) excluding snacks annually is required for a primary student of grade four and five. The cost burden for schooling remains a challenge for children from disadvantaged families. Introduced in 2002-2003,the initiative is fully financed by the Government of Bangladesh. The Primary Education Stipend Program (PESP) reached 7.8 million children and covers six categories of schools: government primary schools; registered non-government primary schools; community schools; satellite schools; non-government organization run primary schools approved by the government; and madrasas(religious schools) recognized by the government with a minimum of 100students.
Upon his information, the school committee decided to participate the exam in the same year. With that goal in mind and to support that commitment, additional after school tutorial session was arranged immediately,and of course free of cost.
In 2009, three students from grade -1, successfully secured their name in the stipend winners, which was an unexpected victory. That was the beginning of our students and teachers combined success which continues to reflect the following years with the increased numbers.
